As this school year ends, please take some time to practice self-care. You have gone above and beyond trying to reach all of your students and ensure they continued their learning. Whether it was learning new technology or calling your students to check in, you adapted to our new circumstances admirably. While you may not have been able to reach all of your students, it wasn’t for lack of trying. Our students face many challenges on a normal day, let alone during a pandemic. You’ve let kids know you were still there, giving them someone to talk to and letting them know everything is going to be ok. I think parents have a new appreciation for teachers now!
UTW will be working this summer to ensure the safe reopening of schools in August. We have two members serving on a core team with the district to come up with recommendations for next year. While the Kansas Commissioner of Education, Randy Watson, is cautiously optimistic that we can be back in school face-to-face in August, we know we need to have a plan in place if we have to close buildings due to a second wave of Covid-19. The safety of our staff and students is our #1 priority. We’ll keep you updated as we go through the summer.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns over the summer. Our summer hours are 8:30-3:30 Monday-Friday starting June 1st.
Now that the school year has ended, take some time to breathe!
